What is a harbor launch?
The mission of our service is to bring people from Town landings to their moorings, and replace the need for every boat to have its own tender. That’s why we say “Ditch the dinghy!” We can get you to your boat, with your gear and passengers, without the headache. And we can pick you up from any of the 8 town landings serving Stage Harbor and its tributaries. So if you drive down to your regular landing, car full and ready to go, only to find all the parking is taken, you can let us know and we’ll try any of the other spots we serve.
We also serve visiting boaters who would like an easier way to shore from their temporary anchorage.
Will you take me to the beach?
Sorry, but the intent of a harbor launch is to bring boat owners to their moorings, and lessen the crowding of dinghies at Town Landings. We’re not intended to be a water taxi, as that would increase parking and take us away from our 5-mile long service area.
When do you operate?
As this is the first operation of its kind to serve the general public across such a broad area, we are looking at this as an experiment. Initially, we will operate Thursday to Sunday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, with a few days added on to the 4th of July. Hours will be 10-6, but could vary depending on demand. We are open to special requests outside our typical schedule and prices.
How much is a ride?
Just $5 per person, each way, payable by cash or Venmo (@stageharborlaunch) at the shore. Children 13 and under, wearing their own Type 1 PFD qualify for a free roundtrip each day, accompanied by an adult. Season passes are available at $500.
Where can you pick me up?
We serve the town landings at Oyster Pond Furling, Vineyard Ave, Barn Hill Road, Sears Road, Battlefield Road, Old Mill Boatyard (Chatham Harbormaster dock), Mitchell River/Bridge Street, Water Street and the Little Mill Pond dinghy dock. We will also pick up from your vessel at any mooring in this area, as well as from your waterfront property (do not trespass, please).
Can I book an exact time to be picked up or dropped off?
We will try our best, based upon the logistics of a 5 mile service area (Oyster Pond all the way to the Little Mill Pond) at 5 mph no wake limits, and stops along the way. If it is a hot and sunny Saturday in July, it is likely that we will be serving more than one group at a time, picking up and dropping off as we go. So we encourage you to make your reservation request as soon as possible. And if you would like the same day and time often, look at buying a season pass — we would love to establish a schedule based around group of “regulars”.
Can I board without getting my feet wet?
Only if we pick you up from one of the docks, being Barn Hill, Old Mill Boatyard or Little Mill Pond. Our skiff may have a shallow draft, but like any boat we can only get so close to shore, especially at low tide. Best to wear water shoes or sandals with a heel strap.
How many passengers can you carry?
We are limited to 6 passengers by federal law. All children 13 and under must wear a Type 1 PFD while on board. Passengers must be seated while underway, and must wear footwear. Consumption or carrying of open containers of alcohol are prohibited by federal and state law.
Can I make a same day or last minute request?
Sure, we can’t always keep up to the minute track of reservation requests while on the water. But try our pickup request form first. You can also text or call us at 508-348-9001 or try hailing us on VHF Channel 68.
Can I see where you are now?
Upon request we can send a link to our location Google Maps during normal business hours. We are hoping to add an embedded map to our site with this info soon.
